I was having dinner the other night at High Street, Bonifacio Global City with friends when I suddenly realized how technology has changed
how we live.
Sure, it has been around and has done great amount of help
and all, but also made us prisoners at the same time (me included).
Back to our dinner, I was browsing the menu deciding what to order
when I noticed my friends were browsing the net using their Iphone. When
I inquired if they are ready to order dinner, they replied saying "yes"
and they found their order online - thru a review made by a blogger.
Nothing wrong in what they did, but surely, it took away the essence of
adventure and figuring out things your own. I leave you to decide if
that is good or bad.
After dinner, we surveyed the mall to do last minute gift-shopping.
Immediately, my friends went to the nearest A Shop in Bonifacio Global City (Mac Shop) to check out the latest gadget and if they are on sale.
We all ended up buying gadget as gifts for special people. Well, even
gifts nowadays are limited to technology? Again, if you think that is
good or bad, it is all up to you.
Later that night, I got an overseas call from relatives asking for a
favor. Guess what? It's all about technology, again! This time around
they would like to check if Samsung S3 is cheaper to buy in the
Philippines.
Are these incidents purely coincidences? Maybe, but for me it talks
about how this generation we live in has become a prisoner of
technology. Whether it is good or bad, it all depends on how we look at
it. I guess we just have strike a balance between what is important and
what is luxury. At the same time, we need to have the ability to know
what is worth exploring yourself and what is worth depending on the
World Wide Web. At the end of the day, we are after all, smarter than
technology.
